Impact On Americans
The Vietnam War took a toll on the American people. With 58,000 dead and 150,000 wounded it wasn't any wheres near an easy time for the U.S. The American people never wanted anything to do with the Vietnam war in the first place. Witnessing the violence on their TV's and seeing how obvious it was that the Vietnamese did not want them there in the first place. The Vietnam war cost them more than $167 billion dollars a year, making every day items very expensive and less affordable. Along with the struggles there were many Anti-War protests that included famous names such as- Bob Dylan, Mohammed Ali, and Martin Luther King Jr.
The impact it had on U.S. soldiers was that over nine million were drafted and they were very young with the average age of 22. Many had to deal with the loss their best friends at war. Once the soldiers returned home, to deal with the physical and psychological pain many started to abuse drugs or commit suicide.
Finally the effect that the Vietnam war had on the U.S. government was that Johnson and Nixon were accused of abusing their power as presidents and the U.S. did not fight in another major war until 1991 in the Gulf War.
